

Remembering Mwine Mushi: A Comedy Legend and Cultural Icon
The Zambian entertainment industry is mourning the sudden passing (death) of one of its brightest stars comedian, actor, pastor, and filmmaker Robam Mwape, fondly known as Mwine Mushi, At just 51, Mwine Mushi leaves behind an unforgettable legacy that shaped comedy, television, and film in Zambia.
Mwine Mushi’s Final Hours
News of his death on September 22, 2025, came as a shock to many, as there had been no reports of him being seriously ill or involved in any accident. According to his elder brother, veteran actor Owas Ray Mwape, Mwine Mushi spent his final hours repeatedly saying: “My time is up.”
Earlier this year, he had collapsed in Solwezi due to high blood pressure but later recovered. Despite this, he continued working, serving his church, Robam Mwape Ministries, and spending time with his family.
A Pioneer of Zambian Comedy
Mwine Mushi was more than a comedian, he was a storyteller who used humor to reflect society. His work on Muvi TV brought the Mwine Mushi character to life, a role that quickly became a household name across Zambia.
Before that, he contributed scripts for the iconic Zambian drama series Kabanana, proving his versatility as both a writer and performer. Over the years, he is said to have written over 4,000 scripts, covering everything from comedy to social commentary.
His older brother Owas remembers introducing him to acting while still in Grade 10 at Kasempa Secondary School. From there, Mwine Mushi never looked back, going on to create stories that entertained and educated generations.
A Man of Many Gifts
Beyond the screen, Mwine Mushi was also a pastor and leader of his own ministry in Solwezi. He balanced his career in entertainment with his calling in faith, touching lives not only through laughter but also through the word of God.
Owas described him as “the most talented person I have ever encountered in my life… He could write, act, direct, everything.” That dynamism made Mwine Mushi an irreplaceable force in Zambia’s creative industry.
A Legacy That Lives On
Mwine Mushi leaves behind a wife, five children, two grandchildren, and five siblings. His funeral will be held in North Western Province, where his ministry and family are based.
As fans and fellow creatives mourn his passing, one thing is clear Mwine Mushi’s legacy will live on through his unforgettable performances, his timeless scripts, and the countless lives he touched.
